Poetry on a Maine Island: A Writing Workshop with Linda Buckmaster

There is nothing like an island for writing. Come to Whitehead Island, located in the Mussel Ridge Channel at the entrance to Penobscot Bay, to explore, write, and relax at a classic Maine island light station. Maine islands have a long tradition of inspiring poets of all kinds and Whitehead is a special place for inspiration.

Throughout this 4-day, 3-night class we will

  • Experiment with form and style, and revise existing work.
  • Discuss readings on craft and the work of other poets for inspiration.
  • Practice the writer's toolkit of image, voice, language, structure, and more through writing exercises and prompts.
  • Write in plein air among the nooks and crannies of the island and in cozy spots in the Lightkeeper's House.

This workshop is limited to 7-14 participants and is open to all poets and aspiring poets of any level. The small class size will allow time for individual student reviews by Linda.  Linda's classes maintain a safe, supportive environment that recognizes there is no such thing as a mistake in writing, just an opportunity for the next draft.
